Out of a total of 91 plots made available in the first two phases of the Sardinia Bay Golf & Wildlife Estate in Port Elizabeth, about a dozen remain for prospective buyers.
This is a good indication of the popularity of the estate among locals and out-of-towners looking to invest in a secure community that offers loads of lifestyle perks.
Estate agent Leon Erasmus of RE/MAX Bay Properties, who market the development, says the building activity on the site drives the interest.
“You can’t really see the estate from the road and people are amazed when I tell them that 60 houses have gone up over the past few years,” he says.
“There are about 12 more houses being built at the moment and it’s this sort of activity which breeds further activity.
“Of the original 91 plots that have been released, close to 80 have been sold and that makes it one of the most successful housing estates of its type in the region.”
Situated in a secure environment a few kilometres from major PE shopping centres and schools, the estate offers a lifestyle that encompasses wildlife and a variety of recreational facilities.
What was previously a nine-hole mashie golf course, has been upgraded to a par-64 layout, while a recreation centre provides the opportunity for pursuits of a varying nature, including tennis, swimming, meetings and functions.
Erasmus says an indication of the level of popularity the estate enjoys is the fact that potential buyers return for a second look.
“For example, one of our clients is coming back to assess the options because they can’t believe the success story the estate has been,” he says.
“After viewing the development three years ago they were possibly a bit nervous about the future prospects and rented or bought elsewhere. Now those people are coming back for a second viewing with the real intention of moving into the estate.
“I can testify to the development that has taken place, having been involved for four years.
“The estate has developed from a largely open piece of land to what it is today. Beautiful houses are dotted all over the property, complete with lush gardens and surroundings.
“We believe that all the ‘maybes’ about the estate have been taken out of the equation and that people are beginning to realise the options which are available in a country setting, but right on the city’s doorstep.”
The third and final phase will be unveiled later this year.
